Iraq in Fragments (2006) Iraq
An opus in three parts, Iraq In Fragments offers a series of intimate, passionately-felt portraits: A fatherless 11-year-old is apprenticed to the domineering owner of a Baghdad garage; Sadr followers in two Shiite cities rally for regional elections while enforcing Islamic law at the point of a gun; a family of Kurdish farmers welcomes the US presence, which has allowed them a measure of freedom previously denied. American director James Longley spent more than two years filming in Iraq to create this stunningly photographed documentary of the war-torn country as seen through the eyes of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds. Winner of Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Editing awards in the 2006 Sundance Film Festival documentary competition, the film was also nominated for an Academy Award this year. Itsy Bitsy (2006) USA
After a long day, and another failed attempt to ask his girlfriend to marry him, David is having a sleepless night, so he decides to get a midnight snack. His commute is interrupted however, when he notices a Goliath Bird Eating Spider standing in-between him and the fridge. Goliath Bird Eating Spiders are roughly the size of dinner plates, and have fangs up to three centimeters long. This is too much for anyone, let alone someone with a tremendous fear of spiders. This playful horror comedy is the perfect example of how little monsters can get in our way, but only win if we remain too afraid to confront them. Comedy.

Manufactured Landscapes (2006) Canada
This film has been getting rave reviews since its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last fall. The powerful and compelling Manufactured Landscapes is ostensibly a portrait of Edward Burtynsky, the celebrated Canadian photographer who specializes in large-scale studies of industrial vistas. Sound boring? Hardly. Manufactured Landscapes is as much about the aesthetic, social and spiritual dimensions of industrialization and globalization as it is about Burtynsky and his work. Uniquely Canadian, and yet writ on a global scale, this film is beautifully shot, edited and conceived
a filmic masterpiece. Documentary.

Mollys Way (2005) Germany
Young Molly travels from her Irish home to a shabby post-communistic Polish town, determined to find Marcin, a one-night-stand and the unknowing father of her unborn child. Quiet, slow and persistent, Molly is strikingly honest, adding warmth, light, and color to the life of everybody around her in the otherwise cold and depressing town. Mollys Way perfectly examines the extraordinary beauty of a human being who has learned to use her inner strength to help her survive and brighten lives around her. What a refreshing reminder of what really counts in life! Drama. In English, Polish and German with subtitles.
