King Vidor Awards
The King Vidor Award for Outstanding Career Achievement in Filmmaking has been a tradition of the SLOIFF since it began in 1993. This year, for the first time, there are two King Vidor Award recipients for amazing achievements in directing and acting.

  • Norman Jewison Norman Jewison
    With a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the 2003 American Society of Cinematographers’ Board of Governors Award, and nominations for five Oscars, three Directors Guild awards, three Golden Globes and an Emmy, all for best director, Jewison brings an astonishing record of achievement to the 2007 SLOIFF. Among the many films he has directed are Moonstruck, Agnes of God, A Soldier’s Story, …And Justice for All, Jesus Christ Superstar, Fiddler on the Roof, the original The Thomas Crown Affair, In the Heat of the Night and The Russians Are Coming. His work has been widely recognized by critics and fans alike, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1999 recognized him for his long and distinguished service by presenting him with its prestigious Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award at the 71st annual Oscar awards ceremony. In his native Canada, Mr. Jewison founded the Canadian Film Center in 1988 and has been active in his growth and development.

    James Cromwell James Cromwell
    James Cromwell has a long record of achievement in both film and television, dating back to his appearance as Archie Bunker’s buddy in TV’s All in the Family in the early 1970s. During his career he has appeared on camera with a wide variety of Hollywood’s most notable stars and has worked with many of the industries leading producers and directors. Cromwell’s extensive film credits include the 2005 edition of The Longest Yard and 1999’s The Green Mile, in which he played prison wardens, Babe (1995), LA Confidential (1997), and 2002’s The Sum of All Fears. Cromwell was nominated for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science’s Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Farmer Arthur Hoggett in Babe. Mr. Cromwell has garnered attention this year for his performance in the current major feature The Queen in his role as Prince Phillip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth. Cromwell has three major motion pictures scheduled for release this year, including Spider Man 3. His voice can be heard in the animated Dante’s Inferno, an entry into this year’s George Sidney Independent Film Competition at SLOIFF.
