Ray Dokes (Luke Kirby) is released by prison and is picked up by lifelong friend and horse owner/trainer, Pete Culpepper (Keith Carradine), who is as easy going as Ray is taciturn. As Ray tries to settle back into a life without confrontation, his nemesis, the son of the area's richest man, won't let him. What develops is a battle between the survival of the family farm and the values that go with it, along with the corruption and greed of development that many small communities are faced with.
