The hopes and fears inherent in the immigrant story are laid bare in this compelling, dramatic short film, which shows how prejudice can lead to mistrust and language barriers can lead to violence.

Enrique is a young man far from home trying to make a living wage as a day laborer on the streets of Los Angeles. He thinks he has finally caught a break when Americans Marcus and Kathy pick him up, along with two other immigrant laborers, to help them move. On the job, Enrique meets and befriends their teenage son as he helps pack up his childhood room. But when Marcus attempts to pay the men with a check, unaware that day laborers are often cheated out of their wages with bad checks, poor Enrique is stuck in the middle of a powder keg of prejudice, anger, and violence. A son of an immigrant himself, Director Rajeev Dassani shows us how a conflict between others regarding class and culture can escalate to tragedy in this suspenseful short film. English and Spanish with subtitles. Director/writer Rajeev Dassani will be in attendance. Drama. USA. 17 min. Screens with Chiles and Gasoline.
