Duel in the Sun (1946)Wednesday, March 12 7:30pm Park Cinemas Pre-screening Reception: 5:30-7:00pm Orchid Hill Vineyard Tasting room, 1140 Pine St. Paso Robles (one block from the Park Cinemas) A colorful story of love and deception on the Western prairie. When her father is hanged for shooting his wife and her lover, voluptuous half-breed Pearl Chavez goes to live with distant relatives in Texas and stirs up emotions as violent as the wind swept prairie itself. Welcomed by Laura Belle and her elder lawyer son Jesse, Pearl meets with hostility from the ranch-owner himself, wheelchair-bound Senator Jackson McCanles, and with lustful interest from womanising, unruly younger son, Lewt. Almost at once family tensions are fired up by her presence and the way she is physically drawn to Lewt. Directed by King Vidor, written and produced by David O. Selznick, this 1946 Western features an all-star cast headed by Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotton, Gregory Peck, Lionel Barrymore, Lillian Gish, and Walter Huston. Beautiful cinematography and brilliant colors make this worth seeing on a big screen. Q & A with King Vidor biographer/writer, Sidney Kirkpatrick. Western/drama. USA. 2 hrs. 10 m.
