An American doctor gives up his comfortable life to operate a small children’s hospital in Peru. Turning his back on his career and comfortable life in Atlanta, Dr. Tony Lazzara landed in Lima, Peru in 1983 with few possessions and no Spanish. Initially he worked in an adult clinic operated by Franciscan friars, but eventually his deep concern for the country’s poor prompted him to open his own clinic and home geared for the needs of destitute and sick children. Today, his clinic houses fifty kids that suffer from an array of illnesses and deformities and Dr. Tony not only works around the clock but absorbs all the costs. Housing, food, education, and medical treatment are all free while the child is under his care. Writer/director Gerald Thomas Straub documents both the challenges and spiritual gratification this inspirational doctor experiences and the joy he brings to so many. Documentary.
