Based on actual events, True North tells the harrowing story of a Scottish fishing boat, its captain and crew and a deal gone bad. In an attempt to make up the losses of a slim catch, the captain’s son, Sean, decides to illegally transport a group of desperate Chinese immigrants over the North Sea to Britain. Pushed by love and respect for his father and his dying livliehood, Sean keeps their human load a secret from all but his garrulous deck hand. Things don’t quite work out the way they planned it however, with unexpected and tragic consequences. An emotionally-gripping, realistic first feature by British director Steve Hudson. Drama.
